70% of today’s children's and teen's diets consist of unhealthy ultra-processed foods, which are associated with:
• delinquent and aggressive behavior
• poor school performance
• susceptibility to illness and increased rates of absence
• ADHD
• psychological distress
• depression -
22% of American children and teens are obese; overweight and obese students demonstrate:
• 54% increase in school absence
• poor levels of academic achievement
• increased severity of infections (such as COVID) - Today’s loss of $10.7 billion dollars in US school funding due to school absence is projected to continue to rise as a result of worsening diets and increasing obesity rates.

Healthy students are better on all levels of academic achievement, as better nutrition is associated with:
• improved behavior, with fewer classroom disruptions, leading to a better learning environment
• fewer absences
• better performance on exams
• better cognitive ability and intelligence levels - Healthy eating behaviors adopted in childhood are likely to continue through adolescence and adulthood, decreasing the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, asthma and obesity.

The Importance of Nutrition Education:
- 93% of high school students and 80% of middle school students feel that they could benefit from advice about nutrition.
- Nutrition knowledge is directly correlated with food choices, and greater knowledge is associated with more healthful food choices.
- Nutritional information positively affects the intake of fruits and vegetables and can normalize obesity measurements (such as BMI).

Prior to participation in The Fresh Physician Program:
• Only 28% of students considered the consequences of the food that they ate
• 2/3 of surveyed high school students ate less than half of the recommended servings of fruits & vegetables daily - After a SINGLE EDUCATIONAL SESSION, fully 77% of students committed to increasing their daily intake of fruits & vegetables, with 50% committing to add an additional 3-5 daily servings.
